標題: AE 12R5.2 Pinion gear for 17.5t 1S
Hello,

Can any suggest a Pinion gear size for 17.5t motor with 1s battery? Will be using Speedmind foam tyre and play at JVP.

Stanard Spur gear on the car is 96t

Thanks!

dun play 1s la

If you play at JV track b, then 1s+17.5 is ok.
But if you play at JV track a, then 17.5 is too slow.

for gearing, you need a very large pionion and a small spur.  for 17.5 typically you want 76/48 and using 45mm rear tires.
The stock 96 spur is too large for 17.5r.

I see, it is just to start with, don't want to go to fast until I get some practice and set it right. I do want to stay with 1S though as I want to learn 1s setup for racing in other countries.

How about 13.5t or 10.5t on the 96t spur?

Thanks!

if you are planning to try slower motor like 10.5r or 13.5r, it is best to change the spur gear to a smaller size.the reason is becasue if you use 96 spur, there may not be enough room to fit a large pinion to get the correct gear ratio.

anyway, for 10.5, you should aim the rollout to about 65mm
with 13.5, aim the rollout to about 80mm

and rollout = 3.14 x (rear tire diameter) x pinion / spur   [or pinion = rollout x spur / 3.14 / (tire diameter)]

if using 45mm rear tire and 96spur, then:
13.5R -> pinion = 54
10.5R -> pinion = 44

I agree to start slow and learn the skill first, since 1/12 is very demending on driving skills.
Just my opinion that at JV track A, the track is too large to run 1S+17.5.  You will get runover by a lot of fast cars there!
In other countries, most run on much smaller tracks than JVA as they run on indoor carpet tracks, so settings and motor selection is quite differenct from HK.

I strongly suggest to start around 1s+10.5r at the very least.

17.5t 係一隻好慢嘅摩打, 最好用2s電, 而摩打齒可用crc的70牙配crc的大減70牙,即1:1齒比

Great advice, thanks Hardmankam. Other than JVP do the other tracks in Hong Kong have many 1:12th players?

wow, using 1:1 the rollout is like 130mm to 140mm! will it overload the motor?

For free track, i think jv and wanchai (under bridge) has 12仔 players.

for paid track, aco track b is good size for 12仔.

1Cell 3.7v電,17.5t摩打, 1:1齒比, 玩12仔700g, 不會overload

Hardmankam, I went ahead with your advice for 10.5t 44/96 so lets see how it goes, I know I will get bored quickly if the car is too slow, so in the beginning I need to have self control on the throttle!! haha

Just in case I order 43t and 45t Pinion to go up or down a little.

Look forward to join you guys for some fun.

With today's boost and turbo settings in ESC, it is better to adjust these settings than changing pinion and spur gears to make the car faster or slower.  Just make sure your motor temperature is less than 80C and your settings are correct.

Have fun!

Is it fesible to install so large pinion gear for 12R5.2?  I'd prefer to use 41/88 for 10.5T

師兄請問一下以上計法係以1s 為例?
如果用2s, 10.5T 係米同樣Rollout? 定係rollout 可以減半因為RPM快一倍?

謝謝

師兄請問一下以上計法係以1s 為例?
--> Yes, the above rollout is approximate figures for 1s.  However, the best indicator of the correct gearing is motor temperature.
Rollout is useful because the rear foam tires will reduced over time.  So you will need to change gearing in order to maintain the same speed with different tire diameter.

如果用2s, 10.5T 係米同樣Rollout? 定係rollout 可以減半因為RPM快一倍?
--> In theory, you use 1/2 the rollout comparing 1S and 2S using the same motor to get the same speed.
BUT... There are other factors that determine the car overall speed, llike: weight, motor loading, amp/current drawn from battery, heat etc...
