Shepherd Micro Racing has been established in the model car industry since 1998. The interest in model building in general derived 10 years prior to that. At the very beginning the focus was on model planes shifting to electro cars and finally to nitro operated rc cars 1/8th scale. In 1998 a new building was built where Shepherd Micro Racing is now located, including office premises, warehouse and an indoor race track for electro cars.
In 2000 Shepherd micro Racing formerly known as Schäfer MTC became sole distributor of Picco Micromotori in Germany and shortly after started importing Enneti Tires, Tornado and Runer Time Fuel.
In 2004 Schäfer MTC bought the whole production of the former Picco Speed, a well established 1/8th scale racing car and stopped retailing. The focus was now on improving the Picco Speed, distributing, as well as import and export. The very same year the company’s name changed to Shepherd Micro Racing and they became German distributor for JP Racing Engines.
Only one year later Shepherd Micro Racing presented an improved successor of the Picco Speed, the so-called Speed v2 – made in Germany.
In 2006 Shepherd Micro Racing became sole distributor for PMT Tires and in 2007 the product range was extended by adding RC Videos by Ray Wood.
2007 was to be a year full of changes and improvements as Shepherd Micro racing decided to take it one step further. The production of a completely new car was to be started and therefore one of Germany’s best drivers – Robert Pietsch – joined the team in order to develop a prototype together with Patrick Schäfer. They both tested the prototype, which was called Velox, on various races and several national and international successes followed. For instances a first and sixth position at the German nationals 2007, an 11th position at the European Championship in Lostallo Switzerland and a 15th position at the World Championship in Cordoba Argentina.
After various tests and steady improvements the new car was born – the Velox prototype is now available.
Another big step was becoming general distributor for Novarossi products in Germany which Shepherd Micro racing accomplished in late fall of 2007. |
