Partially correct, depends on whether u are talking about front or rear TOE?
Most common setting is rear toe-in, front toe-out
For the similiar setting knowledge, the best is to refer to the Xray bible

If u read the whole document, u know mos of the car setting things.

On my xray008 i noticed if you only make toe changes on the front end the opposite happens to what you might expect.

Increase toe (toe-in) - Decreases understeer.
                                  Decreases steering at corner entry
                                  Better overall turn

Decrease toe (toe-out) - Increases understeer.
                                     Increases steering at corner entry
                                     Less effective overall turn

It seems this is because, when you just change the toe only, this effects the ackermann. On 008 using plastic steering blocks the steering is limited by how far the inside wheel can turn.

So on full turn the inside wheel always turns the same amount. therefore if you have toe-in the outside wheel will turn further in(increased ackermann) and if you have toe-out the outside wheel will not turn in so much(decreased ackermann).

so for me. if i want to adjust the toe settings to get the effects as listed on the setup booklet i also adjust the ackermann.

anyone got any thoughts on this? Am i talking absolute rubbish?

Sounds make sense, the setting of one thing affect the others. But i am not totally understand the effect of ackermann, cannot give better comment than u do.

So if want to increase corner entry turn, but increasing toe-out, what should i do also on the ackermann? Thanks c hing

I havent been playing rc for very long, so someone else might be able to explain it better, but in my opinion from trial and error, as i think you can only learn about these things by trying it yourself no matter how much theory you read:

By increasing Toe-out you enable better corner entry already, as the inside wheel is already turned into the corner.

If you just increase toe-out, you will notice a difference in angle on the outside wheel when you full turn(compared to toe-in setting), the outside wheel will not be turned into the corner as much. Best to try this yourself and notice the difference, this is a ackermann effect.

So to compensate for the toe-out, you need to increase the ackermann to have the same effect of ackermann for when the setting was not toe-out. ie. the outside wheel needs to be set to turn in more in relation to the inside wheel.

By having the outside wheel turn in more, this i think should effect mid/exit cornering as the roll of the chassis on the turn will put more weight on the outside wheel.

The ackermann setting effects the difference in angle of the 2 wheels on turning, it will not have any effect on straight line.
If you increase toe-out, try setting the ackermann so that on full turn, both the wheels are parallel and see if you can notice any difference.
I think i may have repeated myself a bit from my previous post....

to answer your question more directly:

before you increase your toe-out
1) full turn the wheels and measure the difference in angle from 1 wheel to the other.
2) make the toe-out setting you want
3) full turn the wheels and increase the ackermann so that difference in angle between the 2 wheels is the same as before you made the toe-out setting.

when i say increase/decrease ackermann i am referring to the following for xray:
increase ackermann = position 5 = quick saver is all the way OUT from the servo saver
descrease ackermann = position 1 = quick saver  is all the way INSIDE the servo saver

thanks xiang and all c hing , i think ackermann is something i overlook, and outside wheel is more important in the steering. Let me try and see the effect on the track. Since i like more turn on corner entry.

點解你地係咁講toe-in,toe-out,都唔講係前轆定尾轆?
