Look wide and look deep, don't only focus on surface. It is the key element to let you join into World standard.
Hope one day Hong Kong have a World professional standard indoor carpet race course. Like Lali Warehouse!
I do hope there is an RCP track in HK. Comments that I have heard are usually negative from the old hands and some bros on this forum. It sounds like you do love RCP. Can you share more with your experiences? Have you tried foam tryes on RCP? How is it like compared to rubber?
I have been wondering why majority of the tracks in foreign countries, like US, Europe, Japan, are RCP rather than carpet but tracks in HK seem to me they dislike it.
C hing, I am still new to Mini-Z. Only played for a few months. Everywhere I go, they use RCP, and always rubber tires only. Foam is not allowed. As I know, all major Mini-Z race use RCP. Carpet are only used for 1/12 or 1/10 indoor tracks, and I think they are CRC carpets.
I usually use Kyosho 30 slick front, and PN 6 or Kyosho 20 slick rear. Front tires will be trued down to 3mm left, and it usually last about 2-3 race day. Rear tires will last about 1 to 1.5 race day. The car is easy to setup, and hardly see anyone drift even with 2wd. You may need to worry about traction roll (cup 4). It's very high traction, and that could also be the reason why most people run 2wd. Foam could be too much traction as well.
I like it the most is that RCP won't break cars. It's all soft edges. I never tried to change the layout, but the owner changes every month. I guess it's not that difficult. Tile size is 20inchx20inch. Our local track is 25tiles x 21tiles, about 41feetx35feet or 12.5Mx10.5M. It's a huge track.
Cost? How expensive can it be? A set like this is US$229. Buy 5 sets would be plenty. That's the most important investment as a racing place, and pretty much last fever. http://www.overstockrc.com/50cm- ...
BTW, CT and MMS usually open for fun only? No race? How much do they charge?
We have race every Friday and Sat. US$8 includes practice and race. Friday usually have about 30 people, Sat maybe 20. Everyone joins for fun, no trophy, just result. Age from 7 - 60.
Thanks for your comments, c-hing. Do you know the reason for not allowing foam tryes on RCP tracks over there? Although i enjoy racing at the two tracks in HK, I would love to try tracks with different conditions and track materials, like RCP. I may try to order a small RCP set and try at home.
Having said that I would also like to try then pro carpet. I just found out that the CRCcarpet should be manufactured by a company named Ozite. Some years back, they manufactured a carpet that was specifically designed for mini-z and carpet tracks in the US usually use that.
Both tracks have races. There was one back in March, which was a year-round Kyosho Cup with 3 races in each track. mms charged HK$100 for joining either class of AWD or RWD and $130 for both classes with 1 or 2 free ATM stock motors. You can find the link with photos and videos of the race in the forum. It was fun!
It must be be fun to race there. I wish I could join.
I've just taken a look at the organizer website (inside line racing). It looks to me their track is not that big though. Is it big enough to enjoy racing inside the club?
PS: I reckon the track is a lot bigger in the mall for the race. Please post a video link here when it's completed. Thanks in advance.
KO race will be hosted by ILR. They located inside a mall, and I heard this KO race will be a big race in the center of the mall instead of their store.
I usually go to Fast Pace Racing (FPR), and they have a much bigger track.
