They look like the same internal and external diameters, but what about the *thickness*?

Well, I just checked TA05's manual. A3 is thicker than A4. You know Tamiya has 3mm spacers and from the diagram it looks like A3 is 3mm thick and A4 is 2mm thick. But this is purely guessing from the diagram.

Agree. Tamiya option 53539 is the set of 3mm spacers with all thickness and "edmondhk" can just pick the most suitable combinations.
