You can use the original transmitter to check if there is anything wrong with the Mars first. Change the band to see if there is a problem with the pair of band you are using.
If the problem still exists, check the chasiss antenna. Using other antenna, or cutting the antenna shorter, or soldering a wire with another thinkness can all affect the reception. The best antenna is the original antenna wire (fixed length) plus the original iron antenna. Make sure the contact is good.
If the problem still exists, check whether the antenna wire is very close to something which has a strong magnetic field or a strong current, particularly the motor wires.
If the problem still exists, ask your friend to bring the car far away from you to check whether there is problem only with 1.the steering, 2.the throttle or 3.both.
If 1, you might have to replace the VR.
If 2, replace the motor and try again.
If 3, perhaps the circuit board is faulty. You might have to replace the pcb at this stage.
