need some help on my MRS4

I am new to this RC world. I got a friend give me a MRS4. The car come with these:
1) a Novak XXL 75mhz but no crystal,
2) Futaba MC203RC ESC
3) Team Orian Mico Elite Modifed and one stock motor

I am not sure the car is running since I don't have a Control and no crystal. What is a cheap control I can get with the crystal? Any suggestion about this car? My friend told me it can run 4AA battery, is that true?
