Just my opinion...
A tire truer is important when:
a) your left and right tires are not the same diameter
b) coning start to form (outside and inside tire is not the same diameter)
c) you want to get your tires race ready (ie want a set of tires to a specific diameter)
d) you want to repair a broken tire (chunked foam)
e) you want to make sure your front tires are 2-3mm less than the rear tires
Without a truer, its hard to do the above and with a correct/precise setup, the car will handle better.
I am lazy, so I usually rotate several sets and true my tires all at once.
You dont really need an expensive machine, but you need a good knife/blade, ie a Hudy carbide blade
The best is a Hudy, but $$$!
