There are so many design flaws with this car, no wonder why people dislike this car.
I spent close to 3 years time, on and off to modify this car. Took so long because sometimes there is really no good solution for some of the fundamental problems, e.g. cant fit a good shell on it.
The only strong point of this car was the sealed transmission, and the belt tension was always good. Otherwise, the differentials sucked, the steering was bad with or without 4 wheel steering, the air shocks suspension did not really work, the blue plastic cage was fragile, the black plastic too soft, the metal parts all rust too easily, the dog bones drop out very easily, the tires were too hard and too wide with no grip, even the driver figure was significantly out of scale.....
The 4WDS concept was probably one of the silliest. With 4WS, it was an always oversteer, without 4WS, it was a constant understeer. The only way to drive this car was to get rid of the 4WS, use only front wheel steering. Drive it really fast into corner and toss it into the corner by somthing similar to what we nowadays called 'drifting', which waste a log of battery and tires....
Mugen designers were eating bananas designing this car
Very lucky I got hold of a set of MIP aftermarket front and rear differentials from ebay, which works like magic. MIP really worth the $$ even though I paid close to nothing for the MIP differentials With some home style modification, I managed to get the center differential working smoothly.
The 'cage' look I showed here was after the design concept of Kyosho Javelin, lucky I managed to design and cut graphite for the cage and the chassis. All in all, too much effort for this car, I only did this because this car was an old friend of mine after my A-level exam summer. That was a tough summer for me.... |
