X1 is not a bad car. It has ton of capability and potential. It incorporates all the update design what currently the market has. What left would be your skill and how you setup the car to match your driving style. As what I have said, your equipment is ready to be one of Mod A-main. Think about what do you have to make it A-main. How much you can draw from it? 80%? or 90%. Any high end equipment will disappoint you if you don't know how to use it properly.
Another important thing which usually out of your expectation is the tire. It determines 90% of the success of a run. Properly use of tire and insert are far more important than the design of a car.
The design of a car usually is going to fit the power to handle and running regulation of an era. It changes according to what power is going to handle, what kind of battery is adopted, and, what the running regulation is at a moment of time. For example, it the old days, battery's capacity is not that high and major power is coming from a 23T motor, car to have a smooth but direct drive train and battery saving front one-way is very important. So it brought to a boom of shaft drive cars in the market at that moment. Then the appear of brushless system and lipo battery forced to fade out of shaft drive car and belt drive dominant the market again.
I would suggest you spend more money on the tires and insert. Choose the best fit from various combination. If you still doubt your car is not good enough because it is cheaper than those from Yokomo, Tamiya, or Xray, go for a Team Associated TC6. It is cheap and this brand always bring proven stuff!! |
