1998
Yokomo first announced the MR4-TC touring car late in 1998, it was a variant of the MR4-Rally. The kit was aimed squarely at racers on a low budget and was defined as an "entry level kit". Despite being an entry level kit, the specification was still high. A full ball bearing set, Universal Joints, Oil filled coil over shock absorbers and ball differentials were all included.
Yokomo's main Competition Touring car at the time was the YR4 but as a marketing ploy, top drivers; Atsushi Hara, Barry Baker and Masami Hirosaka were given an MR4 to race with at major events. These MR4's were not the basement specs but had a few hop ups such as threaded shocks and a top deck to make them more competitive. The car performed a lot better than expected and soon after Yokomo released a Pro spec kit with most of these hop ups on board. |
