Ex 5 or Ex 10

Hi, I am recently new back to Mini z, last time I played was almost 10 years ago when it first came out with the mr-01s, ready set.

I have just visited both the CT and MMS tracks both look really nice and makes me want to get back into mini z even more.

I plan to pick up the ma-015 DWS, as i plan to start off playing with drift and maybe move on to fast car.

I am still having trouble deciding between the remotes......buying the ex5 is enough, but after talking to some chings at the tracks most of them recommend i buy ex10 because if i have to resell the aftermarket is better or if i decided to play other rc i will have the choice.

I am having trouble deciding mainly because of the price a ex5 is around 1200-1300. while a brand new ex 10 is around 2200. a c hing also recommend me to buy a 2nd hand ex 10 which would also be more "economical" in my situation. What does everyone think.

I have been racing 1/10 for a while, on and off.  Took my son to try out a mini-z race, and we both love it.  Now, I have been trying to switch all my Futaba to KO.  Thought about the ex5, but don't really like the look.  I had EX10 and EX1 long time ago.  Sold them because Futaba is more reliable, and won't be jammed.  While I am searching for KO's, I found that they are quite expensive, especially the 1/10 module and receivers.  So, I end up keeping my Futaba's for 1/10, and bought an used EX1 (for my boy) and EX10 (for myself) + mini-z modules just for mini-z.  I would recommend used radio, higher resell value, better ergonomic (with the drop down wheel) .  Save the money for upgrades and other accessories.  Remember: radio doesn't make your car faster.  It's all in your driving.

things have improved a lot since the MR01 era, both original and after market parts flourish all over the place now.

just to give you some insights and sharing some thought over the Radios. First, ask yourself how deep you're going to get youself into these Mini-z Stuffs, are you just going to have a sunday leisure drive or you a serious player planning to visit the track periodically?

If you choose the later, then you're looking for EX-10(either Helios/Eurus) rather than EX-5, yes, both of them are 2.4ghz, but comparing it's feature and figures...

EX-5UR - fixed 2.4G
EX-10 Helios - interchangeable module (AM/AD/FM/2.4G)
EX-10 Eurus - interchangeable module (AM/AD/FM/2.4G)

EX-5UR - not adjustable mechanical steering wheel
EX-10 Helios -  low profile adjustable Steering & Rocker System (optional)
EX-10 Eurus -  low profile adjustable Steering & Rocker System (optional)


I guess response time should be one of the main factor, below are some figures from KO

EX-5UR : only one response time 8.0ms

EX-10 Helios : Using RF-901S module
Normal Response 16.0ms
Super High Speed Response 11.0ms
Advanced High Speed Response 8.0ms

EX-10 Eurus : Using RF-902S module (Direct Digital System) D.D.S
Normal Response 8.0ms
Super High Speed Response 6.0ms
Advanced High Speed Response 4.0ms

looking at the figures,
to match the latest ma-015 PCB, you should get the latest EX-10 Eurus and 902SM module to have the most advance feature and response.

well, if budget is a concern,
you can still use EX-10 Helios or even EX5, but the response time will be limited.

2slow, i didnt know that the respond time would be a factor as well.

hm..well in terms of budget, i'm hoping to spend no more than 1500 on a remote, cuz along with the car (1500) + bearings, shell, tires,gyro (600~700)....i was originally expecting to spend no more than 3k on the whole thing. checked the prices yesterday, ma-015 is around 1500 now. so yea...

well in terms of the ex 10s. is Eurus the new version? and what are the price differences?

eurus (new, 2nd hand) compared to helios (new,2nd hand)

Eurus is the latest one, new around 2200~2500 I guess
2nd hand is something not more than 1500, thats.....if you're lucky to find one these days

well... you may try your luck on some used Ex10 Helios, it went as low as 7xx here at the 2nd hand market.

or you can go CT/MMS and ask around, as someone might selling their old Radios after upgrade.

u can find ma-015 in the market now. it is out of stock for some time already.

其實好難用數字形容你聽，只可以話跟手左，同埋少左d jam下jam下唔聽話既情況

thans for the info chings. Yes unfortunately budget is a concern. I checked out the ex10, looks super nice but also too expensive for me. I think I will probably try to look for a 2nd hand Helios. Althought the 16ms response time is doubled of the Eurus quite depressing. But budget is of concern :/

any ching have an idea of how much a RF-901S module would cost?

it cost around $300 for brand new,
if u wanna play with mini-z,u should go for 901sm actually.

So 901sm is for Helios and 902sm is for Eurus?

yes, 901sm is for Helios and 902sm is for Eurus

902sm + Eurus is the right choice if you have enought money.
