I will use simple english here:
In 1/12, people use 'rollout' rather than 'gear ratio', the reason is because foam tires will decrease in size after each run.
Formula for Rollout = (3.1416) x (rear tire diameter) x pinion / spur
(eg: if you use 46mm rear tire, spur = 80, pinion = 20, then your rollout is: 3.1416 x 46 x 20 / 80 = 36 mm/rev)
For 8.5R, rollout is about 45mm
From this info, if you work the rollout formula backwards, you should use pinion:
pinion = rollout x spur / 3.1416 / (tire size)
(using above eg: P = 45 x 80 / 3.1416 / 46 = 25)
so you can use 25T pinion for 8.5R
note: Your pinion will change if you use different tire size to maintain @ 45mm rollout.
The best way to check whether you have the correct rollout (or using the correct gear ratio) is to check the motor, esc temperature.
If esc or motor temperature is cool, you can use more gear or adjust esc to give more power.
BUT if esc or motor is too hot (over 85-90C), then your gearing or esc setting is wrong. |
