I have the following Chargers
1. Powerex MH-C9000 Charger/Analyzer $4xx
2. SkyRC NC2500 Charger $4xx
3. iCharger 3010B $12xx
4. PowerLab 8 Workstation $15xx (depends on what parts do you buy)
MH-C9000 and NC2500 only charge AA and AAA batteries. NC2500 actually can also charge any batteries via the USB port as long as the external batteries accept USB 5V charging. These 2 chargers are pretty much the same in terms of functions and features. One good thing about using these chargers/analyzers is that they have Break-in mode and Refresh mode. Break-in mode is for new batteries running in. Refresh is to re-condition batteries that have been used for a while. NC2500 allows free Android app to fully control the charger via bluetooth.
iCharger 3010B and PowerLab 8 are both high end chargers and are for serious racers (or whoever don't care about price and just want the best of everything). They both basically charge all types of common battery chemistry being used on the market. PowerLab 8 can charge NiZn while 3010B cannot. Both allow you to connect them to computer via USB and allow software control. However, PowerLab 8 allows you to change almost every single bit of function and control via their freely download software. Firmware update is very easy and thus whenever there is new battery chemistry, theoretically its easier to add that in via firmware or you can just add it in yourself. The software for 3010B is basically just a monitoring software that allows you to see the charging/discharing status. And the software/firmware being used in 3010B is a very common one being used in many different brand names of chargers that are manufactured in China. In terms of battery charging/discharge, both chargers are pretty much the same. However, due to the specialised software of PowerLab8, I would say it's better than 3010B because you can do fine-tuning to optimise your charging. In addition, there are also cleverly designed features that make it the best (in my point of view) now on the market.
In your case, I would recommend you to use the NC2500. Simple to use and cheap. Of course, there are many cheaper charger out there you can use. They will still work. But they don't have conditioning function. If you are serious in RC racing, get the better one. If you're not sure, just use the cheap one.
Just my 2 cents. |
