Dear Sir/Madam,
238RS - Recreational Facilities on Jordan Valley Former Landfill, Kwun Tong
I have had interest on the captioned project since 2006. Based on the Government Tendering Inventory, it is known that the Contract has been awarded to the relevant Contractor in January 2008. I search information about the project in the internet and given to know that an outdoor model car circuit with indoor pit rooms will be constructed under the Contract. That is great news to all radio control car fans in Kowloon. According to the information, the surface of the model car circuits will be formed of homogenous tiles. As an enthusiast in radio control car models, I would like to express our concerns on the finishing design as follows:
1) The friction between tile surface and radio control cars is relatively low. Most of the radio control car circuits are constructed of bituminous material which its friction is comparatively higher than that of tile surfaces. There are three private circuits in Hong Kong – 1 ) Track Carena Circuit in Sha Po, 2) PYC Circuit in Fanling and 3) TRC Circuit in Yuen Long. All are using bituminous material as the finishing surface. A copy of their photos is attached for easy reference;
2) The gap between tiles is approx. 2mm in width and 1mm in depth. The height difference between the ground and suffix of common radio control cars is less than 10mm. The said 1mm variation in the vertical profile is too excessive to those radio control cars; and
3) The tile surface is water impermeable. Water ponding will be encountered on the circuit surface. However, bituminous material is permeable.
In view of the above, bituminous material is superior to homogenous in functional performance to radio control model car circuits. It is recommended to lay 50mm thick 20mm wearing coarse to substitute the said tile surfaces.
All radio control car fans will be highly grateful if you could consider the above proposal.
Yours faithfully,
Anthony Lai
Encl.
