Logically, ESC should have high temperature cut well before it is hot enough to go into fire... if you have the high-temp-cut enabled...?
After high-temp-cut, the ESC should stop working anymore until it is restarted. (if the high-temp-cut function properly). So it should not lead to fire also.
I guess you not yet disconnected the battery before fire.? And provided that your battery specification is within limit:-
The possible reasons of the fire should be:-
1. The high-temp-cut off function is DISABLED? -> Circuit melted leading to short-circuit and fire. This might not be under warranty.
2. The high-temp-cut off function is ENABLED, but there is manufacture-fault, the temp go far beyond the designed value. Some circuits melted under high temp, and finally resulting in short circuit in ESC (while you still connecting the battery?) and fire. -> This should be manufacture-fault.
To my understanding, if it is the second case, you should have right to claim the manufacturer...
If so, suggest to bring it back to the retail shop for immediate replacement...this should normally be entertained.
